We’re still open – Byker GP practice reassures patients

A GP practice in Byker has moved to reassure worried patients after the temporary closure of an urgent treatment centre based in the same building.

Thornfield Medical Group, which provides GP services from the Molineux Centre near Shields Road, continues to serve its patients despite the changes to other services on the site.

Molineux Street Urgent Treatment Centre, which provides a walk-in service from the same building, has now closed as the NHS reorganises local services to better manage the Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.

Tracey Stuchlik, management partner at Thornfield Medical Group, said: “These can be confusing times for people, but I’d like to reassure our community that the doctors, nurses and admin teams at Thornfield Medical Group are still working hard to care for patients.

“In the current situation, we won’t be seeing face-to-face patients at Molineux Street, but if you’re unwell you should still call us on 0191 275 5740. Our branch surgery at Shieldfield remains operational.

“Our staff are offering telephone and video consultations so you can stay safe at home but have your medical needs cared for. If our clinicians feel you need to be seen face to face, we will ensure this option is available to you.”

Like other practices, Thornfield will be operating on the upcoming bank holidays, Friday 10 and Monday 13 April.

If you have symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature or a new, continuous cough), use the NHS 111 coronavirus service at www.111.nhs.uk/covid-19, call NHS 111 free, or phone your GP practice. Please do not attend your practice in person.

If you have symptoms of Covid-19, your GP will assess you by phone or video link and then advise you on the course of action you should follow.

This could be to self-isolate, or where necessary they may refer you to a Covid-19 treatment clinic for further treatment. There are arrangements in place for patients who are not able to travel, including people who live in care homes.

Urgent treatment centres at Molineux Street and Westgate Road closed on Sunday as part of a city-wide Covid-19 reorganisation. For patients needing to attend an urgent treatment centre for non-Covid-19-related health needs, Ponteland Road Urgent Treatment Centre remains open from 8am to 10pm every day, at 169 Ponteland Road, NE5 3AE.
