Parents and carers are being invited to have their say on the future of mental health services for children and young people across Newcastle and Gateshead.
Expanding Minds, Improving Lives: Motivating and Working Together to Transform Children and Young People’s Mental Health is a project being led by the health and social care commissioners of mental health services.
NHS Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Newcastle City Council, and Gateshead Council are working together to transform how the mental health needs of children and young people are supported and potentially arranged across the area.
The project will be holding two workshops specifically designed for parents and carers who would like to share their stories and express their views to help shape better, more responsive mental health services for children and young people.
Clinical Chair of NHS Newcastle Gateshead CCG and Newcastle GP, Dr Guy Pilkington, said: “Parents and carers have a wealth of experience and knowledge of the types of issues facing children, young people and families, and we’re keen to hear their comments and ideas for the future.
“Our aim is to work with the people who have experience of using these services to highlight any areas that we can improve, and to help us design a new way of working.”
The workshops are being held on Saturday 5 December at Newcastle Civic Centre, from 10am until noon, and on Wednesday 9 December at Gateshead Civic Centre, also from 10am – 12 noon.
