If sickness strikes over the late May break, take time to consider where to go for help.
If you need health advice this bank holiday weekend, there are lots of options, say doctors in Newcastle and Gateshead.
NHS Choices has lots of help about local services and advice about common illnesses.
Local pharmacists can also give advice and help direct you to the best medicines to treat them. If you don’t normally pay for your medicines, then you don’t need to pay with Think Pharmacy First in Newcastle and Gateshead – you can get them free and over the counter from your local pharmacist without the need to see your GP.
If you are unsure, phoning NHS 111 can save you time waiting and help you feel better fast. They can help with more urgent, but not life-threatening, matters and if needed direct you to out of hours GPs.
Dr Mark Dornan, a local GP and Chair of NHS Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “If you’re not feeling well over the bank holiday weekend, please take some time to consider where you should go to find help.
“Using NHS Choices, 111 or pharmacies takes the pressure off Emergency Departments (A&E departments) in the region, freeing up staff there for real emergencies.”
