NHS Newcastle Gateshead CCG’s staff are braving a cold March night and sacrificing both a warm bed and a roof over their heads to spend the night under the stars at Riverside House, Newburn, to raise money and awareness of YMCA Newcastle’s homeless prevention work on Friday March 16th, 19.00 – 07:00
Helen Aitken, Hilary Bellwood, Jill McGrath, Lisa Bramley (Intrinsic), Steven Bramwell (NDCCG), Samantha Hood, Jeff Hurst (YMCA), Gary Millar (Savill’s), Steve Parry, Nichola Smith, Chris Wass & Julia Young would like to you to support young people who are in crisis & need a roof over their head by asking you to sponsor them in their above event.
Statistics indicate there are a minimum of 200 homeless people at any one time in Newcastle ,but in reality the number is far greater as many are part of the ‘hidden homeless’, e.g. those sofa-surfing at friends homes.
YMCA Newcastle is an independent local organisation that supports young people undergoing a crisis. We provide food, drink and clothing, access to specialist support, support obtaining hardship funding, help setting up a home, and support to overcome issues such as substance misuse, family breakdown and long-term unemployment.
330 young people used YMCA Newcastle’s intense 1-1 crisis support services last year and in total they supported 2,583 young people last year across our City.
All funds raised from our Sleepeasy event will fund YMCA Newcastle’s crisis support and homelessness prevention work at their centres in Walker and on Pilgrim Street.
