Patient information about the future of Blaydon GP Led Practice

Decision made on the future of Blaydon GP Led Practice

We have listened to patients’ views through the public consultation and we have taken this feedback into account in developing plans for the future.

At the end of the consultation we wrote a report on the findings and we have used this information to help us to consider how best to provide GP services for patients at Blaydon Primary Care Centre in future.

At a meeting held in public on 27 February 2018, NHS Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group’s Primary Care Commissioning Committee considered two options, and decided to approve:

Option 1: To keep a GP practice at the health centre

This means that we will now take steps to secure a new provider to operate your GP service from 30 June 2018, when the current provider’s contract comes to an end.

If we are not successful in finding a new provider, then there will be no other option but to close the practice.

Patients do not need to take any action, and can continue to use the practice as normal. All patients will automatically transfer to the new provider at the end of Juns, but do have the option to register with an alternative local practice if they prefer.

What we did as part of the consultation

Blaydon GP Led Practice is a GP practice based at Blaydon Primary Care Centre (Shibdon Road, Blaydon, NE21 5NW). The practice delivers services to 1,996 patient.

The current contract is delivered by Gateshead Community Based Care Ltd and has been extended until 30 June 2018 and cannot be extended further.

Earlier in the year, we asked patients for their views on the practice and this information has been used to inform the options for the future that are now being consulted upon.
You can read the feedback report here.

As the contract is due to end on 30 June 2018, NHS Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is starting a period of consultation about the future of the practice.
